This, coupled with the forma of assessment has led 1o and 11 year olds to think that history is memorizing facts about the past. The present scenario aims to enhance students' understanding of basic aspects of human life and values that constitute the essence of life part of wich is the past. For this reason a rather different approach is suggested .

This lesson plan addresses students of first Greek Gymansioum and aims at developing English language skills as well as historical knowledge. In line with CLIL philosophy the present lesson plan  uses the context of History as set in the Greek national curriculum to teach English and advance language vocabulary , skills and expression. It is also based ont the principle of differentiated instruction aiming ar all students irrespective of their current level of English and / or presence of learning difficutlies.

Understanding the Past

The lesson aims at developing young learners' language  skills in English while at the same time it uses the thematic context of the Histroy lesson  taught at school. The dual purpose is to advance reading writing and comprehension skills in English , enhancing pupils understanding of History material. It generally follows the CLIL philosophy and it is addressed to students of fist class of Greek Gymnasio.
