History, especially in 4th grade onwards has been traditionaly linked with acquisition fo factual knowledge and summative assessment in Greek primary school. This, coupled with the forma of assessment has led 1o and 11 year olds to think that history is memorizing facts about the past. The present scenario aims to enhance students' understanding of basic aspects of human life and values that constitute the essence of life part of wich is the past. For this reason a rather different approach is suggested . The main goal is to make the past relevant to students present and the way to achieve this is to draw on pupils' own experience and ideas.
