Weremere
School 3 membersPrimary school Weremere, with its building (2010), is located in the center of the village of Wormer in the municipality of Wormerland. The front of the school is adjacent to the Kameelstraat and the back at the ditch of the Zaandammerstraat.
The building with 62 apartments also received the name De Spil from the users.
The school is part of this MFA (Multi Functional Accomodation). This means that there is not only a school in the building, but also the Baloe nursery with a playgroup. Baloe also has access to a room that is used for pre-school and after-school care.
The name Weremere is explained in the book "From the history of Wormer" by C. Mol as follows:
Wormer is one of the oldest villages on the Zaan. When and under what circumstances the first inhabitants settle permanently on the land between the lakes, to find their existence in fishing, hunting and cattle breeding, can not be said with certainty.
It is assumed that a settlement has arisen a short distance from the vast lake "De Wijde Wormer".
The name Weremere appeared in a certificate of the Abbey of Egmond, dated 1063, which states, "In Weremere Quator Uncias".
From Wormer one had to pay 4 onsen (one currency) to the Abbot of Egmond. Opinions differ on the meaning of the name, although many insist that the name accurately reflects what the intention should have been: "Weather" is a weather (dike) against the lake (water).
Weremere is for us a place where children can develop in a safe learning environment.
