Experimental Junior High School of University of Patras

School   2 members

Τhe history of our school begins in 1972. Since 2008 our school is situated on the university campus of Patras University. That gives us the opportunity to cooperate and work with various university departments. They  also act as facilitators with our European Projects (former Comenius and now Erasmus+KA2). University students and teachers, who are attending teacher training courses, choose our school to observe and practise teaching in several fields and subjects (literature, history, math, physics, chemistry, languages). We are also interested in the developement of our students' social skills through voluntary work and their participation in a school choir as well as many extracurricular teamwork activities.

Our school team consists of 21 teachers, who are all very well qualified.

The innovation on our school is lying on the different approaches of the teachers and the headmaster to meet today's key competences and how they could be mediated to students.

The:

- adaptation of pedagogical and technological innovation and learning scenarios (like “inverted classroom” – “Augmented Reality”)

- transition from non-digital to digital in education incl. towards digital learning resources and environments (like Edmodo and open eclass)

- contribution of research and science (by cooperating with several University departments and presenting the results of those co operations on various congresses, workshops or seminars, mainly by our students)

- awareness of European dimension and global classroom thinking (by implementing European projects, like eTwinning, Teachers for Europe, Erasmus+KA2 and former Comenius)

are our main concern on how to make education (and our school) more attractive and useful.

Until now we’ve been involved – as partners – to several European projects (eTwinning, Teachers for Europe, Erasmus+ KA2) and have carried out several national projects (about environmental, health and cultural issues). Since 2011 we have designed and introduces various after school extra-curricular programs (“Clubs”- about history, languages, mathematics, biology, physics etc.) and extracurricular activities. (Poetry, Comics, Painting, Radio, Chess, Robotics competitions, visiting museums, theatre etc.)

We have also organized in-service-training sessions for our teachers about the:

- use of interactive whiteboards

- function and use of open platforms

- creation and maintenance of weblogs and websites

We have organized workshops and congresses about new online learning environments, the pedagogical use of ICT and iPads/Tablets, the music in our life, etc.

Because of all the above, we had organized a training workshop in Patras (in January 2015) for all the others Erasmus+ Partners in KULTURKIOSK-Project (2014-2017).

In the framework of Erasmus+KA1, four (4) teachesr from Poland (X. Lyzeum) visited us on January 2019 from job shadowing and to attend workshops on various Webtools and Applications.

We are know running three Erasmus+ KA2 projects: a) KULTURKIOSK II – project (2017-2019) with the consisted partners and other two new schools 2) EDUWEB (2016-2018)  and  3) AVE - Ausgewähltes Virtuelles Europa (2018-2020).

We are a team of eager teachers readily to engage in continuous learning and peer-to-peer networking and to apply new teaching methods effectively.
