Escola Profissional de Oliveira do Hospital

School   4 members

EPTOLIVA - Vocational School was created in 1991 after a careful reflection of the needs of the region and taking into account the results of socio-economic studies. Within the current legal framework, the school has an application was made to PRODEP I (Educational Development Program for Portugal), after surveys of potentially interested companies and students, and after the creation of protocols between the city councils of Tábua and Oliveira do Hospital and promoter companies.

Currently, the School has two poles in operation with 7 vocational level IV courses, distributed by 13 classes, with a total of 190 students.

DIAGNOSIS

EPTOLIVA students range from 15 to 21 years old. The school community consists essentially of rural and domestic workers, as well as employees in companies from the region.

The community participates in pedagogical meetings and festivities, but we still have some families who participate little in the school life of their students.

The geographic area of the school is mainly urban, with Oliveira do Hospital pole, the main school, consisting of 8 classrooms, 1 library, 1 teacher's room, 1 reception room for parents, 1 psycho-pedagogical support office, 1 room for school management and 1 secretariat. The Tábua pole consists of 3 classrooms, 1 library, 1 teacher's room, 1 reception room for the caretakers, 1 coordination office and 1 reception.

Being a Professional School, which mostly responds to a very specific range of students, which are characterized by social isolation and usually come from families with dysfunctional characteristics in terms of the structural organization of the family system, the great challenge of the School is to combat the strong absenteeism and school dropout, which plagues the two poles, and the demotivation of students, by promoting equal opportunities and closer relations between School and Community.

In view of this situation, the institution through its management team, teachers, administrative assistants and operational assistants have sought to improve the school, both in physical and pedagogical aspects, seeking partnerships, promoters and new pedagogical proposals that arouse in their students the pleasure of becoming a member of the school community.

SOCIAL ROLE
