The students of the 9th Elementary School of Edessa made a board game with the well-known table "snakes and ladders" as a model, in order to get to know Greece better.

We enthusiastically accepted the teacher's challenge to recall our summer memories from our vacation spot. As it was early September, we could still feel the summer sun burning our faces, the saltiness of the sea on our skin or the mountain cool breeze stirring our hair. The idea of ​​making a board game to get to know Greece better emerged effortlessly through the exchange of our views and experiences. As classmates asked "where is this place, or" what did you see or where havw you been ? "

We wrote our summer memories on the paper given to us by the teacher. Then we read them and exchanged our summer experiences with our classmates. On the occasion of the language course "Sea school" we wrote our own poems for the summer and then we read them to each other. It was a very nice experience, as we laughed, joked and discovered our poetic talent! But the best thing was when we brought in the classroom souvenirs from our summer vacation. Some children brought postcards, mugs, fridge magnets, keychains, and more. One of our classmates who has visited Chios, brought us mastic-flavored candies. I still remember the taste and aroma of mastic in my mouth!

When we made the decision to make our own board game, I never imagined that the result would be so great! I would like to thank our teacher Mrs. Evi who guided us step by step and so methodically. The main thing is that we managed to learn a lot of things, without even realizing it! We worked in groups and several times on the weekends we were with the children of our group, sometimes in one house and sometimes in the other, to work. We searched the internet or books to find information about every part of Greece we had undertaken: about animals and plants, attractions, archeological sites and so much more. The funniest part was when we asked questions about the game. It was so funny! Some of our classmates with talent in painting, took over the illustration. In the end, we laminated the cards so that they would not be damaged. We found a map of Greece on the internet. We print it, enlarged and painted it. That was the model. We made two dice and used plastic bottle caps for pawns. We are a school friendly to recycling!

I can't describe our joy when we first played our game! I remember we shook hands and congratulated each other on the result. What seemed inconceivable to any of us alone, could be done, thanks to teamwork. I think that the board game we made united us more with our classmates. We valued each other. Even our classmates who do not do so well in other subjects, gave their best and helped a lot on the cards. Fortunately, we managed to make on time individual board games "Knowing Greece", which are played by two to four people. Each student got their own at home and it was our consolation during the quarantine period. We were playing ths table game with my family and I could feel the warmth of my class. The voices and laughter of my classmates and my teacher were coming to my ears! We had a lot of dreams about presenting the game in the school yard at the end of the year. Unfortunately, the Covid 19 virus spoiled them! I hope we manage to organize the celebration when we return to school!
