Principal’s Welcome

On behalf of the staff and girls of St. Vincent de Paul Girls’ School it gives me great pleasure to welcome you all to our school website. We hope it gives you all a snapshot of the vibrant life of our busy school.

Here at St Vincent de Paul Girls’ Primary School we are very proud of our school community. We endeavour to create a pleasant, secure and happy environment where the girls can achieve to the best of their potential. We aim to generate a caring and positive school community which offers respect and opportunity to all. In short, we believe that St Vincent de Paul Girls’ Primary School is a very happy place to come to school and a happy place to work. We have wonderful children and a great team of teachers and teaching assistants who all work together to make learning engaging, meaningful and fun. We also have hard-working ancillary staff who keep everything ticking along behind the scenes. Martin, our caretaker, is always on hand to help out with maintenance and Jacinta and Ger keep the office on track with a smile no matter how busy things get.

St. Vincent De Paul Girls’ School, Marino

Our school was founded on Griffith Ave in 1928 as a parish school run by the Daughters of Charity of St Vincent de Paul – known locally as the French Sisters of Charity – to cater for the children of the developing area of Marino. In 1930 there were up to 700 pupils enrolled here and many classes had between fifty and sixty children!!

The school has gone through many developments in the intervening years, with the welcome addition of indoor toilets(!) and a spacious school hall. It holds a fond place in the hearts of the local community, with many families having generations of children educated here.

Today in the girls’ school we have 325 girls in 12 classes from 2^nd to 6th class and sixteen teachers.

Apart from our academic pursuits we take great interest in developing other talents too. There is great interest in sports in our school with opportunities to try athletics, basketball, camogie and soccer. We have enjoyed great success at cross country running and athletics in recent years and in recent years our camogie team has been lucky enough to win finals in Croke Park! 2015/2016 saw a new chapter unfolding as we entered a Gaelic football team and a soccer team for the first time. In 2017 both our 5-a-side and 11-a-side soccer teams reached the Dublin county finals!

Music is also well catered for. A school choir was formed towards the end of 2013 and has been enjoyed greatly by fifth and sixth class girls since. Check out the video below to catch them in concert.Second classes began to learn tin-whistle during ’13/’14 and this has been extended to 2nd and 3rd classes for the past few years. Neither of these initiatives would be possible if it were not for the generous support of our Parents’ Association. Go raibh míle maith agaibh!
