Kalevala project: a story about the robbery of Frog, in spring 2023. The project is aimed at 5th grade students. The aim of the project is to deepen pupils' knowledge of the Finnish folklore of Kalevala. In addition, the aim is to develop the pupils' filming and editing skills. In addition, social skills will be enhanced by working together on the project.

Project design. In the mother tongue class, there was a discussion about the Kalevala legend and especially about the robbery of Sampo. Inspired by the story, the students suggested that they should make a play about the robbery of Sampo for the spring festival. The topic was discussed in Finnish language lessons and the pupils of class 5 A & B together with their teacher wrote a script. The script took several Finnish lessons to write. The script was written using the Kalevala language. The pupils chose suitable costumes for themselves from the school's costume collection.

The working phase. In early May, we organised an excursion to the seaside, to the Cannon Rocks in Kristiinankaupunki. There, we filmed a mock-up of the Sammo robbery with iPad. Some of the students acted as cameramen. After the trip, the students edited the video during lessons.

At the end. The students were enthusiastic about their work and enthusiastically embodied their roles. The production was presented at the Kantakaupung school's spring festival. Feedback from both other teachers and carers has been positive.
