Project Worksheet

With profiles of natural resources and the protection of the environment students learn about protecting biodiversity, the causes and the effects of degradation, factors which contribute to biodiversity degradation, making analysis of the pollutants impact on soil, water and the environment.

I implemented in the school more actions about the study of biodiversity in the local forest, natural reservations, the protection of the environment, we've organised competitions for Earth's day and I’ve done various activities in the school and  out of school  in partnership with the local community.

We are completely dependent on biodiversity for surviving , because we are the ones who destroy  the most part of natural universe and we have the power to change this course , in order to take action, in order to protect its our own biodiversity and to assist at the development  of life in the dirt in the future.

 I presented to the class students images with city areas where the forest has been grubbed massively, where there are petroleum soils, abandoned petroleum collection parks, areas where landslides are visible and we offered to make a study of their effects on biodiversity.

Starting from the question "  Is biodiversity in danger?" We have made at the beginning of the year  a trip  in to the city  forest, to observe the disappearance of some shrubs and health beneficial medicinal plants   ( maces, hazel, stinging nettle, mushrooms ) which not long ago were a food  source for the city ‘s inhabitants . In addition, the forest provides a protection curtain,  in particular  in winter, for the town’s inhabitants, located on the hillside.

In the last few years, thousands of species of plants, shrubs, insects beneficial in pollination,  have been gone and the causes which led to biodiversity loss are complex:

- The destruction of their habitats;

- Pollution;

- Over-exploration of resources.

Informing students about the society problems and efforts for protecting and conserving of environment, to their active involvement in the protection activities of biodiversity through a wide range of concerns, from creative scientific and process-orientated activities, documentary films, drawings/painting, household activities beautification  which affects school and classes, for the city.

Raising awareness among students and teachers on the environment problems, developing the critical spirit and the capacity of students on taking decisions by collecting  selective waste streams and recouping recyclable waste streams, green space around school or parks will lead to protecting the environment and hence of biodiversity.

  Being inspired by your offered projects ideas, I'm pointing to implement in school   an experiment about "the impact of chloride Hypochlorite, diesel oil, detergents on the ground and agricultural crops of wheat and beans".

The purpose of the scheme is to make aware, the students but also  the local comunitee, on the need of local community involvement in protecting the environment and  our city's biodiversity, by means of various  activities of clean-up , planting shrubs in areas with high risk of land slides, by carrying out the activities of environmental education and clean-up, through the development of lab experiments for studies on the impact of the attack with various substances on the soil, and the effects in the short term and the long run on  crops agricultural productivity.

     Objectives pursued :

- Training  practical skills  to apply in practice activities.

 Friendly environmentally of green spaces from the school yard, of  parks near schools and selective collection of waste to protect biodiversity.

        - The development   of students responsibility to protect biodiversity environment : awareness of the environment  care importance through  participation in voluntary actions concerning the protection natural environment impact.

I presented  to the class materials for learning about biodiversity, factors that contribute  at  the biodiversity degradation.

Within the activities framework and the material submitted, we carried out an experiment  about " impact chloride detergents, Hypochlorite, and petroleum products to the soil and agricultural crops of wheat and beans" which consisted in:

Planting in pots  of 50  grains of  wheat and 5 beans , in which we put agriculture land collected from various city locations, which we have subjected to attacks with chloride Hypochlorite, diesel and detergent  at various concentrations , while maintaining a blank non-safeguarded any treatment.

Taking into account the fact that the transport of petroleum products, natural gas and other substances is underground, in the recent years it had happened many accidents on evading fuels, pipe degradation, the discharge or maritime accidents, escaping into the atmosphere  of detergents  has resulted  in the biodiversity degradation  with major implications in both flora and fauna  terrestrial and aquatic.

Following the completion of the experiment students have found that any polluting substance discharged into the soil can have negative effects on succeeding crops, primarily resulting in loss of productivity, and more severe partial or total dry crop experiment, in our case, total dry bean plants and more than 75 percent of the wheat crop.

 Students used to perform video-presentation materials Web 2.0 technologies with  which they will participate in various competitions linked to this topic.

 The second stage of the project consists in the analysis of the soil in the pot which has been subjected to treatment in order to detect damage as a result of the substances attack.

Potential impact on the teaching activities, conducts at an increase of new technologies  use in the process of training, developement of students skills in computer operation, and communication via Web 2.0 tools, in order to direct to a profession or a career after completing high school.

Students have realized that by destroying biodiversity components future options of humanity shall be reduced  and they threaten the possibility of human society continuity;in spite of clear and measurable danger in economic terms, where we can  search for more arguments to justify biodiversity conservation and protection involving high costs and limited economic development.

The resources

I used for documentation, resources on the platforms:

For increasing the motivation of students to participate in activities for the implementation of projects,  I presented to the class more resources: tutorials created by me with the use of appropriate software for the creation of advisory materials, monitoring of project activities,  but also created by the students and located at the following addresses:

 I presented the documentary films about the importance of biodiversity protection and environment, flora and fauna, water and land degradation implications,

http://vishub.org/search?utf8=%E2%9C%93&q=biodiversitate,

I let the students to formulate their own ideas about biodiversity, about the impact of different substances discharges or infiltration in soil and their effects on soil and crops.

For this I made an experiment at school in which students had participated in every stage of the project to track the evolution of subject plants on the attacks of substances in order to draw their own conclusions.

The challenge

I focused on this project because at natural resources and environmental protection profile it is a module included in the curriculum - biodiversity conservation knowledge’s learned, allow the students, to develop practical and creative skills about:

• local and regional biodiversity monitoring

• Examine the factors that lead to the biodiversity modification, as a results  of completing this, students will be able to:

• study and to compare biodiversity types, the characteristics and the factors that cause changes in biodiversity

• process and analyze the data obtained in the laboratory;

The project theme fits into units of competency.

At first, the students were retained about the project evolution, requiring a strategy plan well drafted and extra work time. But after discussions with them and detailing of working tasks on fulfilling the experiment, they realized that it is very important to enforce and to grant maximum reliability at every planned stage to obtain the expected results.
