This is the PowerPoint presentation that was given by Neil Hawkins from Tring Astro during the recent "The School Observatory" event that was held at the Space Studio, Banbury on the 23rd January 2015. It introduces the audience to the different types of telescopes available, together with associated costs and accessories. It also explores what aspects those thinking of establishing a school observatory might want to consider in selecting equipment.

The Lunar Mountains activity is a Keystage 3/4 workshop to estimate the height of mountains and crater walls on the Moon. After assembling a mosaic of a quarter-phase Moon, students are asked to measure the length of shadows being cast by a number of vertical features on the lunar surface, and will then use some algebra to estimate their respective heights.

This is the talk that I delivered at "The School Observatory" event that was held at the Space Studio, Banbury on the 23rd January 2015. It is a PowerPoint presentation that introduces the audience to the idea of using robotic telescopes in schools. It dicusses the need for robotic telescopes in the professional arena, and then shows how they can be used in the context of education. The talk lasts around 30-40 minutes.

This is a useful guide, published by Astronomy Magazine, that provides information and guidance to those thinking of buying an astronomical telescope for the first time. Whilst they clearly focus on Celestron products (their sponsor), the information contained within is nicely laid out and very informative.
