This project is all about problems that has anything to do with food waste. In our project, we focused on the waste itself and how to reduce if not prevent it, while bringing people closer.
Background
We are three students from kfar galim school in Israel. once a week, for about two hours, we work on our project. at first it was theoretical and we only gathered information and wrote about our plans, and then we started to work on our prototype. we built a non-electric fridge, and a prototype app for it. It wasn't simple and we had many problems, but I believe we handled them pretty well.
Aim
The project's aim is to prevent food waste and create a sharing community. We do that by putting a fridge in building's lobbies, and allowing people to put foods that they don't need anymore in it. Later to that, they will update the fridge's app so that all of the people in the building will know exactly what is in the fridge and for how long the food will remain edible.
Implementation
The problem was defined in advance so we didn't have to think about it. we wanted to think about a solution that can prevent the food from being thrown away in the first place. And then we got to the fridge. we wanted to put it somewhere public that will have a non limited supply of electricity, so the fridge will remain running, and the ideal place was the lobby of the building. We later built an app in which people who put food in the fridge can inform other people about it.
Reflection
During the making of the project, we first of all learnt to know each other better. We also learnt about how to work as a team and how to improvise along the way as well as dealing with problems.
Futurel Plans
our future plans is to spread our fridge to the entire world. If we will continue with the living lab project, we would probably develop a new one using the skills we acquired on this project. we will learn from the mistakes and incidents we came across in this project.
