Background
Ask your students if they know gluten free products ? gluten intolerant people ? , discuss with the
students if they are aware of the carob powder products ? nutritional value ? chocolate carob as
healthy snack ? carob incorporation in food products
Aim
o To discover the gluten intolerance
o To discuss the benefits of carob powder as an alternative
o Familiarity with the carob products and it’s health benefits and discover carob chocolate as
healthy alternative.
Co-creation with societal actors
o Take your students to visit a processing unit of carob product or meet a researcher or a
nutritionist that are familiar with carob powder benefits.
o Back to the classroom, ask students to discuss the findings based on the visit and/or
interview.
Implementation
o Assignment to students to gather information on carob powder and bring healthy recipes based
on carob powder as substitute of cacao (ex. Carob cake, carob chocolate ..)
o At home, each student prepares an innovative product using carob powder as an ingredient.
o At school canteen, students present their carob based homemade products and taste them
together.
Reflection
Help students prepare a healthy product based on carob powder as a substitute of cacao and
adopt them in their eating habits.
Futurel Plans
o Develop healthy snacks based on carob powder to be added in their eating habits.
o Prepare a document with selected recipes that were the most appreciated and invite other
students from other classes or schools to a dissemination day with presentation of the products
and testing sessions.
