This project wants to be proposed not only as an activity in which children are stimulated to use their senses to get in "contact with nature" but also to implement mental operations to achieve a competence as a combination of skills and knowledge.

The boys walking along the streets of Quarto, realized that there were few green spaces. The children searched and found uncultivated green spaces. The first  green space they found was that of their school. They took care of the garden and observed its variations over time.

Every change, smells, colors and impressions of each child in the group have been recorded.

The garden motivated the children to discover and explore new knowledge and respect for the environment and food.

The points that have emerged:

  • The discovery of the green of our neighborhood.
  • The benefits of herbs and aromatic plants we planted last year.
  • The production of agricultural products such as fruit and vegetables as a basic food group of a healthy Mediterranean diet.
  •  Recycling of weeds for the composter. Lessons in the garden to learn about the environment.
  • The spontaneous and guided participation of students.
  • Open the garden to the community and host the activities of the school community and the grandparents' club of our school.
  • Olive tree planting and the importance of extra virgin olive oil.

The students collaborated with the grandparents and opened the school to the municipal institutions for the purchase of agricultural products and for the olive tree. hence the idea of the creation of the social gardens for the grandparents and the creation of the composter at the palaces.

  • Cleaning and organization of the garden for the presentation of the program.
  •  Care of existing plants. Straining weeds to create space for  new plants,  water them and clean them.
  • At the same time the boys have walked with their parents in the neighborhood, visited the green areas nearby and understood how important green is in our lives and in our psychology.

The students shared emotions and experiences with one another have:
