STEAM: To Mars and back!

Hosted by OSOS , contributed by Helena Fonseca on 10 July 2020

Video intro for engagement:

Watch Elon Musk Reveal SpaceX's Most Detailed Plans To Colonize Mars

Will we live on Mars? What will be like? What would we need to do that?

In this project students will be actively engaged in learning more about Mars and space exploration by engaging in several tipes of activities like: STEAM challenges; research tasks; role-play activities; game-based learning activities; etc. The metodology proposed in all project phases in Design Thinking

The project is for all ages with activities adapted to each age/ ability group:

  • STEAM Challenges that allow students to think as scientist and engage in Engineering Design process (Rovers to Mars, Mars colonies, Mobile of Solar System; Planetary Models of Mars)
  • Games that encourage students to learn about features in Mars ant the terraforming process (Game: Terraforming Mars)
  • Videos in which researchers explain how we will get to Mars (Nasa and Space X Youtube Channels; TED Talks)
  • Outreach programmes such as events with professional scientists where students participate in research projects (Invite scientists to talk about Mars; build partnerships with ISEP (universities) to create mentorship programs)
Learning Objectives
Analise Mars planetary features; Discuss about life sustainability requirements; Explore Mars space exploration tecnhologies
