Art & Science across Italy

9    |    Science

art@CMS

4
Art@CMS is an education and outreach initiative of the CMS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), the world’s largest and most powerful particle accelerator at CERN, the European Laboratory for Particle Physics. Art@CMS seeks to act as an inspiring springboard for engaging the public in general, and youth in particular, in the excitement of scientific research in High Energy Physics (HEP). It thus aims to promote a long-lasting dialogue between the LHC scientific community, the art world

Ciencia Clip: young Science Youtubers CONTEST

5    |    Science
INTERNATIONAL CONTEST: open to any student in the world. Students learn to create their own youtube videos where they can explain to others their favourite science topic. Videos are grouped in six categories: - S: for students age 12-14 - M: for students age 14-16 - L: for students age 16-18 And then 3 other categories with same age range division for animation videos. A special categorie for best video from Latin American and european (excluding Spain) countries is also part of the contest

Ciencia Show: science stand-up CONTEST

NATIONAL CONTEST: science monologues for students. Ciencia Show is a Spanish stand-up science national contest for students. Students present a video with a stand-up science explanation in less than 5 minutes. The best 6 students in each of the selected cities of the project perform in the semifinal in a local theatre with experts as jury. The winner of each city travels to Bilbao for the national final. The final winners (student and teacher) will travel to visit CERN. The webpage of the

CMS Virtual Visits

7
CMS Virtual Visits offer students, teachers and the general public a unique opportunity to explore the experimental site of the CMS detector. Through a web-based videoconference, CMS scientists interact with visitors in their native language, explain the physics and technology behind the experiment, and answer their questions. The technical requirements for taking part in a virtual visit are: Recent computer with a (preferably wired) network of minimum 1.0 Mbps Video projector and a

CREATIONS

70
Welcome to the CREATIONS community How can young people’s interest in science be increased? 16 partners from ten European countries want to break new ground. In CREATIONS, a project funded by the European Union, they develop creative approaches based on art for an engaging science classroom. The CREATIONS community portal creates a vital environment of innovative approaches, activities and resources for teachers and students towards Scientific Research. All tools hosted in this portal are based

CREATIONS COMMUNITY (For Partners)

Einstein Meets Creativity

7
Did you know that: E=mc2 is the most famous equation of all time in Physics? In this community and its corresponding CREATIONS demonstrator, students will be introduced to the science and some major applications of this equation in a way suitable to be presented in the classroom and then they will be guided to create a science fiction story employing the techniques of creative writing.

Eurospectives 2.0

72
A project that combines the art of telling stories with the use of a variety of multimedia tools Eurospectives 2.0 stands for encouraging European learners in telling their stories and their perspectives as active citizens. As a spin-off of the strategic partnership, "Digital Natives", the partnership identifies good practices and lifelong approaches in digital learning and digital storytelling. The project aims to enhance the quality and relevance of the digital learning offer in education and

Explaining physics concepts through fine arts

The difficulty in visualising what takes place in the quantum world has a close relationship to the artist attempting to express their ideas and emotions about the world. Both are concerned with “making the invisible, visible.” “In-Public” a new community arts group co-founded by Ian Andrews and Sarah Fortes Mayer have been collaborating with the particle physics group at the University of Birmingham to develop a series of workshops for schools. The workshops, developed with particle physicist
