Community garden in our school

Hosted by OSOS , contributed by AgneJ on 5 July 2022

The aim is to create a community garden in school territory. Through this project we involve students, teachers, community, parents and local organizations and local government. Project involves all students from the school regardless gender or age.

Students are able to learn through practical activities:

  • biology (seed, plants, carbon cycle, photosynthesis, etc)
  • technology (building flower beds and pots, insect hotel, bird house)
  • chemistry (plant nutrition, nitrates, phosphates, micro- and macro nutrients)
  • entrepreneurship (selling products, profits and losses, fixed costs, etc)
  • art (painting and decorating signs and flower pots, technical drawing)
  • mathematics (calculating area,  costs, percentage, etc)
  • soft skills (communicating, team building, teamwork, taking responsibility, etc)
Learning Objectives

Students make a plan of action to prepare the garden. They research information on other community gardens in Estonia and also in the world. They learn from the information and analyze (with the teacher's help) the data.
