The energy of the astronaut
Our problem was to determine the quantity of food we need, for one day, with the help of nutrition facts labels.
Reduced gravity and low fat diet
Food can contain hidden fats. Our problem was to make them visible.
Hydration station
In microgravity, fluids move towards the brain which decides to eliminate them; it leads to dehydration. The astronauts must make sure they are correctly hydrated to stay healthy. We tried to identify the different hydration levels and decided to examine the color of urine, to do so.
Speed of light
To complete their missions, the astronauts must remain focused and need a good reaction time. We took a test to improve our concentration and reaction time.

The energy of the astronaut
We learnt we had to adapt the intake to the needs. Then we worked on the importance of a balanced diet with the help of a food pyramid. We found out we had to limit amounts of fat in our diet to stay healthy. The astronauts must have a balanced diet, so, they should eat small quantities of fat.
Reduced gravity and low fat diet
We blended a hamburger with water, then we heated up the preparation to separate the fat from the other ingredients. We realized a hamburger contained a lot of hidden fats even if we can’t see them at first.
Hydration station
We started by representing the different levels using food coloring. Then, we observed our own urine for 24 (twenty four) hours, writing down physical activity and the amount of water drunk in that period. We finally found out if our hydration level was good or not and if we had to change our habits to maintain a good level.
Speed of light
A student was dropping a ruler and another had to catch it as fast as possible. We measured our reaction time. This time corresponded to the transmission of the nerve signals from the eye to the hand.

In English class, we created posters to promote healthy food choices and physical activity. This work was inspired by Michelle Obama’s program: « Let’s Move! ». Our posters were displayed in our school.
We took part in a drawing contest: we had to draw an inhabited Martian space base. Here are some of our drawings.
