Knights for Road Safety, a new OSOS Accelerator is available

A new OSOS Accelerator is available, based on the Knights for Road Safety (KROS) Erasmus+ Project (http://www.kros-project.eu/).

The KROS Accelerator is the first OSOS accelerator regarding Road Safety. Road traffic injuries are currently the leading cause of death for children and young adults aged 5–29 years, signalling a need for a shift in the current child and adolescent health agenda which, to date, has largely neglected road safety (WHO, Global status report on road safety, 2018). Research has shown that changing attitudes and behaviors of road users is crucial in order to save lives. Effective road safety education is an important part of this process since it can help students develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes in order to take safer decisions and behave responsible in traffic.

In order to facilitate the process of introduction and implementation of Road Safety education in the school curricula, the KROS Accelerator provides a comprehensive training programme along with a platform with educational Resources.

A related KROS Community is also available for you to join. This will gradually involve in a strategic partnership of Road Safety Experts, Pedagogues and Curriculum Developers, Local Authorities, Advanced Educational Applications Developers and schools. These stakeholders are joining forces to design, develop and validate an innovative professional development program for teachers.

The KROS Community already includes innovative Activity Sheets which are available to download as Resources. The KROS Resources cover all aspects of Road Safety: Speeding, Seat belt use , Drink driving, Distraction, Cycling and motorcycling, Passenger safety, Vulnerable Road Users, Sustainable and active travel, Emotions in Traffic

The KROS Accelerator offers an excellent opportunity to attempt to turn your school into a hub for scientific knowledge transfer. Schools with the support of the participating Road Safety Institutes, could organize events in which the students present their projects informing the public on Road Safety issues and busting myths around driving and mobility in general, changing this way the attitudes and behaviours of all road users.
