C21 Genetic diagnosis

The biochip is an analysis and diagnosis tool a centimetre or less in size. It takes the form of a glass or silicon surface holding thousands of fragments of DNA. A biochip enables a large number of genes to be identified rapidly. In the medical field, biochips are used in the diagnosis of infectious and genetic diseases, testing for antibiotic resistance among different microbe strains, the analysis of genetic mutations and the identification of new therapeutic microbe strains, the analysis of genetic mutations targets. They also enable foodstuff traceability, GMO detection and bacterial analysis of water.
