Environmental recovery of our coast - Sustainability of the environmental and historical / cultural heritage of the surrounding area of Barreiro, Portugal

The project aims to make students aware of local environmental problems and acquire a proactive position in solving environmental issues contributing to the acquisition of a more sustainable city.
The methodology used will be IBSE (Inquiry-Based Science Education) using the scientific and multidisciplinary method. This teaching methodology based on research and identification of problems aims to stimulate research. The main specific objectives are:
- Sensitization of the school community to take actions that lead to the reduction of excessive pollution of soils and water, once practiced in the surrounding area by the Barreiro-CUF chemical industrial complex;
- Adoption of the Coina and Tejo rivers and study of the chemical and plastic pollutants in their waters;
- Involvement in the monitoring and cleaning of coastal areas involving entities outside the school in research and research in the areas under study;
- Knowledge of the local historical / cultural heritage of the people of old in the surrounding area;
- Sensitization of the school and non-school community on the excessive use of products with plastics and microplastics that later come to our coast: http://alvarovelho.net/cefjard/
