Junior High School of Moudros "Argyrios Moschidis"

Moudros' Junior High School "Argyrios Moschidis" is a small school on the east side of Lemnos and has 65 students and about 20 teachers. Its students come from all the villages of Eastern Lemnos and most of them arrive by buses every morning.

A brief history

Our school was founded in 1972 and was first operated in the building of the Moudros Elementary School. In 1981 it was transferred to the building that is now operating, which was built with donations of Moudros residents and immigrants who left Lemnos for a better life in Australia, USA or Europe.

In 1997 it was named "Argyrios Moschidis" in honor of the great historian of Lemnos. Argyrios Moschidis is one of the top spiritual figures of Lemnos in recent years. His researches and passion for history have yielded the excellent book "Lemnos", which is the basis of the research of all the historians of the island. He was also an excellent educator.

Since 2003, our school offers classes for students with special educational needs.

School activities

Every year school programs (cultural, environmental, etc.) are being implemented in our school. As a result of a cultural program implemented in 2009-10, there is also the school exhibition At Roussopouli, 20th of June, 1926. This exhibition hosts the archive of the Roussopouli (a small village of the area) Elementary School.

In the school year 2015-2016, our students took part in the action Student Guides in the Ancient Theaters and became guides at the Ancient Theater of Hephaestia. The activity was prepared during the lesson on ancient drama.

Since 2015, the students have been working on the refugee issue with the programs PHILOCTETES IN LEMNOS - "I was a stranger and you took me in" - Immigration and refugees in 2015-2016 and The Refugees and We: Volunteering as a Life Stance - solidarity in response to the humanitarian crisis in 2016-2017.

In the last few years we have been involved in landscaping our school yard and cultivating our garden and our greenhouse. We plant flowers and trees in the yard and we also produce our own organic vegetables, which are consumed in the canteen.

"I care and I also act" 2016-2019. Awareness program for students on volunteering, solidarity and active citizenship. We have been distinguished all over Greece for the good practices of the transmission of volunteering and for the innovation of our action "Give life", as we have managed to inform the residents of Limnos about the importance of bone marrow donation in collaboration with the University of Patras and the local authorities we have received samples from 300 donors.

School facilities

The new building is built on a 4000m² plot. On the ground floor are the principal and teacher offices, the indoor gym and the school library. Also on the ground floor is the school library of the program IALYSOS since the school year 2000-2001, with over 5000 books and audiovisual material.

On the first floor there are 9 classrooms. These include a foreign language classroom, a multi-purpose classroom and our labs: a physics and chemistry lab, a computer lab and a technology lab.

On the north side of the school yard there is a basketball court and a small football field.
