Training teachers in using photography equipment for incorporating relevant practices in teaching and everyday life

Hosted by , contributed by Kyriaki_Vakkou on 15 September 2023
Dimension:
Professional development of teachers
Stakeholders involved:
Educational providers
Main challenge:

The main challenge to tackle was the insufficient education of the teachers in the use of photography equipment and all relevant hardware and software. By developing relevant knowledge and skills, the school will be able to capture all the important events of the school and the community without additional costs and also, provide the course of photography as an extracurricular activity to students interested.

Action and initiatives:

We solved that problem with the provision of courses provided by a trainer from the Photo Studio that has a master's degree in photography, as well as a registered activity (P 85.59 Other education and teaching). Five teachers are learning about photography, and more specifically, they are getting acquainted with the tools and features offered (e.g., ISO, aperture, shutter) by the purchased equipment and cameras. All this theoretical knowledge was adopted in practice both in teaching practice and everyday life. The plan is to hold several workshops on photographing the environment and nature, and then the school will continue by learning the basics of videography.

Main change/improvement/impact:

The five teachers that were educated about photography are now able to handle cameras, video processing software and other relevant tools and can pass down this knowledge to others (e.g., students, teachers and other people interested in this subject). Students will be able to participate in extracurricular activities to learn about photography, which will increase the number of lovers of photography and its processing and contribute to the sustainability of this project and relevant actions of the school.
