Finding technological solutions inspired by nature for people with special needs
The students will meet people with special needs (disabilities) from their community, learn about their daily life and together they will find a problem they wish to solve. During the project the students will be exposed to the field of Biomimicry through a visit to the local petting zoo and through lectures and activities given by experts and teachers. The students will work in groups to plan and design a product according to the engineering design process. The product that will be developed will solve the special needs people's problem and will be inspired by nature. The final products will be presented to the community during a pick event with all the people that were involved in the project and other representatives from the municipality and from the Ministry of Education.

RESOURCES NEEDED:
The school will need help in finding academy experts in the Biomimicry and engineering fields. The school will also require money for students' travels. The school will also need some equipment for building the products, some of it will be provided by the local science center.

בניגוד לדבק תעשייתי רגיל, דבק החילזון ידידותי לסביבה (97% מים) ומכיל חומרים טבעיים בלבד.
דבק החילזון מתמצק תוך פחות משנייה, בשונה מדבק מלאכותי שצריך לחכות דקות - שעות עד שיתייבש.
בניגוד לכל דבק מלאכותי, דבק החילזון יכול לשוב ולהפוך לנוזלי, ומנוזל שוב להפוך למוצק – אינסוף פעמים. תכונה זו מאפשרת למחזר אותו ללא גבול
וללא פחת.

רגל החילזון נוגעת בפני השטח באופן לא רציף. בכל רגע חלק מאזורי המגע צמודים לפני השטח בעוד חלק אחד מחליק ומתקדם על פני השטח. כשסיים להתקדם נצמד אותו חלק אל פני השטח, והחלק שלפניו מתחיל לנוע קדימה. כך מתקבלת תנועה גלית מחזורית לאורך הרגל.
הפיתוח הוא שדרוג לרכב חלל המשפר את כושר העבירות של הרכב ומאפשר לו לטפס על צוקים ולנוע בכל שיפוע. בדרך כלל ינוע הרכב באמצעות גלגלים ומנועים חשמליים. אך כשהרכב ייתקל במכשול בלתי עביר, הוא יפעיל את מערכת ההנעה החלזונית המותקנת על גחונו ויתקדם בעזרת רגל הנעה דמוית זחל של טרקטור וריר דו תכליתי.

בעבודה זו חקרנו על החילזון ובעזרת מה שגילינו עליו חשבנו על מוצר שיכול לעזור לאדם.
ידענו מראש שדבק החילזון הוא חזק מאוד אך לאחר שחיפשנו באתרים ובמאמרים שונים גילינו את המנגנון המופלא. מצאנו כי דבק החילזון מורכב מאוד והמנגנון שלו עובד ביעילות רבה.
בהמשך העבודה חשבנו על דרך ליישם את המנגנון במוצרים טכנולוגיים והחלטנו לפתח מערכת הנעה שעובדת על פי עיקרון ההידבקות וההתקדמות של החילזון, שיכולה לעזור לאסטרונאוטים ולכלי רכב רובוטיים לנוע על פני כוכבים וירחים בכל תנאי שטח.
עבודה זו הייתה מעניינת מאוד ובזכותה למדנו רבות על החילזון.
העבודה פיתחה את היצירתיות שלנו וגרמה לנו לחשוב מחוץ לקופסא על רעיון של מוצר בהשראת הטבע.
