Kirkonmäen koulu (Kirkonmäki school)

Kirkonmäki school is located in the municipality of Somero, with a population of 8 600, in south-western Finland. The nearest urban centre, the city of Turku, is 85 km away.

Kirkonmäki school, founded in 1882, operates under the leadership of six class teachers, offering primary school education to around 130 students. 

Kirkonmäki school launched Reading with a Granny -project in spring 2022 where the aim is to inspire children and young people to read and encourage communities to support literacy more. They invited voluntary senior teachers to share and implement their long experience and remotely meet and support students' reading.

With the LfE-funding, they purchased Chromebooks, a touch screen, iPads and teacher training. The teachers also used the opportunity to collaborate with other LfE-schools worldwide.
