There is often a perceived fear and disconnect among primary school students of the prospect of learning the STEM subjects at post-primary level. The purpose of this project is to start addressing this perception and seek to make the learning of the STEM subjects less fearful and less daunting. IN conjunction with our Transition Year students, we will go out to the Primary schools and commence the basic learning of these subjects before they start in post primary. The students will also attend our school and carry out experiments within the school lab. This will reduce the fear levels, improve performance in these areas, increase the uptake of these subjects later on in post-primary education and enhance socialization among the students. The students will not come from just one school beu a number of schools from where on occasion there may be a single student joining our post primary school

The project is designed as follows:
1.A team of 5 Transition Year students will go out to the participating Primary schools to introduce the project and commence some work on the STEM subject area
2.This will be repeated for 2 further sessions (1/week)
3.During week 4 the participating students form these schools will attend Abbey Community college and work in group session within our science lab. The focus will be on practical experimentation and the development of a strong team-work dynamic
4.This process of alternating between primary school and post primary school will continue for s defined period, decided by the students/teachers.
5.At the end of this project the students will be tasked with preparation of an experiment based in any of the STEM areas and make an oral presentation to the whole group on how then engaged with and what they have learned form the project.

•Students will engage with others through the medium of groupwork, practical presentation, experiment design and implementation
•Peer to peer assessment will be at the core of the evaluation process
•Students will interact on an ongoing basis promoting good relations and the development of a team dynamic
This project will commence its “student active phase” in Sept 2019. During this time students will record their reflections on the process and continually evaluation their progress. This will happen both within their own school and within the post-primary element of the process. This feedback will be shared with all the group. Each team will be tasked with the preparation of a project summary and report which will be placed on a dedicated section of both school websites. Facebook, Twitter and Instagram will also be used to highlight the students work
