Ecological Gardens

Hosted by OSOS , contributed by nelsonfq on 13 October 2018

This project aims to make students and families aware of the cultivation of plants for their own consumption, through organic farming.

Learning Objectives
Contribute to raising awareness among students and families about the importance of healthy eating. Stimulate in families the production of edible plants and the practice of composting.

This project aims to make students and families aware of the cultivation, under different conditions, of plants for their own consumption.
We therefore hope that students, and their families, will learn and/or share knowledge and techniques that enable them to perform simple agricultural tasks in a context of concern for food and environmental quality.
It is intended to provide students with other references related to the activities to be performed through reading and music.
This project involves local knowledge and experience, provided by community members and small businesses, who will support its implementation. The project also articulates with the Open Schools for Open Societies project and the Eco-Schools project.

Reading literacy
 Reasonably chooses readings according to diverse criteria, mobilizing the reading skills appropriate to this cycle.
 Expresses ideas by writing correctly and adapting the speech to the conventions specific to the type of text, support and genre selected.
 Seeks and uses information autonomously to solve everyday problems, expand knowledge and make decisions.
 Autonomously and safely uses digital technologies and tools to communicate in everyday and learning situations.

Information Literacy
 Explore a variety of search terms for more specific information.
 Extracts meaning from the selected information by formulating hypotheses of interpretation based on inductive and deductive reasoning.
 Works collaboratively, debating and justifying their points of view, confronting them with others and reformulating positions.
 Combines data from different sources, organizes, categorizes and structures the information collected.

 Collective and individual cultivation of edible plants in the schools.
 Home cultivation of plants for domestic consumption.
 Utilization of organic waste for composting in participating schools and student residences.
 Presentation of the book + CD “Mão verde”, by Capicua and Pedro Geraldes, in order to raise awareness of the preservation and sustainability of the planet.
 Study visits to agricultural production sites according to ecological patterns.
 Research and preparation by students of plant identification sheets and other texts (prose or poetry) in different formats.
 Preparation of an individual and collective “field notebook” by teams of participating students for activity records, observations and research.
 Organic products fair to be held: lectures; Nature-related bibliographic display/sale; demonstrations for students and relatives; sharing of experiences by participating families; student work exhibitions.
