Environmental protection

Hosted by OSOS , contributed by Irenka on 20 June 2019

Ecological topics are broadly covered in the curriculum of chemistry and environmental protection. Each year, project-based, environmental education is planned. Students actively participate with their own research reports based on what they learned at school. One of the projects is presented as a video.

The student project is presented as a video and meets the said objectives and tasks. It is educationally oriented and can be used for a wide range of trainings. It is compiled by children for children. It includes the subject under consideration, depicts causes of environmental pollution, consequences and potential solutions to deal with them. Students express a position on the problem and personal attitude and example.

The main objective is to raise awareness of current global realities that impact on the environment, thus increasing the ability of young people to understand the importance of these problems and their causes, their own environmental impact and their role as citizens of the world who are able to come up with different solutions to these problems.

Tasks:

1.To help learners understand the interrelationships and interdependencies between the different environmental aspects.

2. Understand how our patterns of consumption are part of a larger cycle that negatively impacts the environment.

3.To raise awareness of the frequent environmental problems that the world is currently experiencing

4. Improve students' understanding of the impact of their behavior on the environment and their skills to better address these issues.

5. Improve young people's commitment to environmental protection in a pro-active manner and their ability to behave in a more favorable way to the environment.

Our students are involved, informed and have participated in competitions, case studies and discussions on issues related to nuclear energy and its safety every year. Their mentors are very often specialists in various fields of Kozloduy NPP - Safety, Security, Radioecology and others.

In 2019 they participated in the Student Conference "Nuclear Energy for Clean Nature".

Annually, the women in the nuclear industry – Bulgaria, organize conferences, round tables with wide public participation of specialists from the nuclear power plant in Kozloduy, students from the municipal schools in Kozloduy. The women in the nuclear industry-Bulgaria are our patrons and have an active youth-oriented activity to increase their level of competence in the nuclear industry, in relation to the benefits of nuclear energy and the radiation protection of the population.

In 2019. they participated in a discussion on the project "Partnership of the citizens with the local, regional and national institutions for creation and implementation of sustainable policies in the field of radioecology and radiation protection of the health of the population"

With courtesy of our partners at the University of Chemical Technology, our students take part in seminars, competitions and organized visits to get acquainted with university biofuel, hydrogen and other laboratories. Seminar lessons are thematic focus on environmental protection.

In 2019. our students defended and presented topics related to waste and resources. They were awarded for their teamwork and diplomas. Some of the presentations were presented in French and German.

Learning Objectives
The main objective is to raise awareness of current global realities that impact on the environment, thus increasing the ability of young people to understand the importance of these problems and their causes, their own environmental impact and their role

We need to do something and we need to do it now! According to an ongoing temperature analysis conducted by scientists at NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies, the average global temperature on Earth has increased by about 0.8° Celsius (1.4° Fahrenheit) since 1880. The levels of the world ocean are rising and the icebergs are melting with incredible speed. a good 97 percentage of the pollution has happened after the year of 1950! in just 70 years we managed to undermine some of the most valuable biological connections and turn our biosystem upside down. Let's see how fast we can turn it up again.

Global warming is the biggest factor of climate change. The overlaying of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere has led to the phenomena of the exhaust fumes suffocating us with tons of tons of carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, formaldehyde and of course carbon dioxide annually. Therefore, waste treatment and recovery are very important. If we do not recycle all the waste it will have to be stored at the landfill. There, in turn, there are wastes of a different nature and for this reason their decomposition causes the release of harmful greenhouse gases as above. What we can do without changing our lifestyle could be really helpful and of great importance to our planet. We can cut down on single-use products and plant one tree in our free time. We can use a bicycle or the public transport to cut on engine fumes, or we could take a walk if we feel like it.

My team and I have learned so much information in order to participate in various competitions, debates, seminars and conferences. We have learned a lot of it at school but also a big portion of our knowledge holds the web. It is something like a self-teaching- you see a problem and you want to know more. You want to know how others are doing while facing it and you want to know how can you help. You just cannot sit by and watch people struggle while doing nothing to help. So you get used to it- to all the news and the changes, to keeping an eye of the things around you and advising others to do the same. We humans need to constantly be informed and try to discover the essence of the things that surround us. The environment is all around us and if we do not care about it, and she will not soon be interested in us.

My name is Gergana and I would like to live in a world without oceans of plastic and with no gray skies. I feel like it is my responsibility to inform people of our current situation and maybe light a little spark in them to start recycling. I plan on continuing on living on this planet for many more years, so I am deepenly hurt by the way we people have been treating our one and only home. Just remember- there is no planet B. My name is Victoria and I support the protection of the environment. This is my home, here I live with my family and my closest people. I oppose the use of plastic bags for a market because it's like giving money for environmental pollution. That's why when I go shopping I use a textile bag. I prefer not to throw my waste on the street, but on the designated places. My appeal to people is to be open to the new, the unknown because it gives more than you could want. If we all are more environmentally friendly we will provide more years of life on Earth.
