Primary School of Aravissos

School   2 members

Our school is named  after the village where the school is situated. The building is old  but in very good condition. Around the school there is a huge playground including a basketball court, where the children play or relax between lessons.

It is a primary school with pupils of 6-12 years of age. Pupils 12-15 years old attend the secondary school (junior high school).

There are 6 classes for each of the six grades. Each class has an interactive board to support teaching. Every classroom is decorated with paintings made by the children and other hand-made supervisory stuff. There is a library that serves also as resource room for teaching children with special educational needs for 2-3 hours per day in small groups.

The headmistress is Mrs Zoi Amprazi. She collaborates with 12 teachers.

A combination of teaching methods is used, as the effectiveness of each one depends on   the available means for the achievement of   the targets that each subject or lesson, sets.

Cooperative learning   holds a prominent position in our school’s culture and can be summarized in the instructional use of small groups so that the students work together to maximize their own and each other’s learning, because cooperative learning groups proliferate in every educational setting, regardless of the age or educational level of the students present.

We expect that our participation in the current project will help us promote intercultural education for all school-children. We also believe that working with other teachers and exploring their ideas about the quality of the educational environment and conditions, support our work with the objective to define what makes a school effective and attractive  for every pupil, thus improve the ways of teaching, bringing new ideas  to  classrooms, to our schools and disseminating these ideas to the community.
