We do not renegotiate our past because it is one of the pillars of our identity, but we are open to change, in a dynamic attitude, of nonconformity, innovation, betting on new technologies, a new conception of School, facing life, citizenship, democracy, competence, demand, quality and excellence.

We have school facilities equipped with some new technologies and sports facilities of great quality: a soccer field with synthetic turf, a gymnastic pavilion, an indoor swimming pool, a sports center and a gymnasium.

We are a School dedicated to access to higher education, with the highest percentage of students entering the areas of Health (Medicine and others),  Law and Economics. However, we also bet on technology courses. Aware that education is not only about the quality of learning, but also about training for citizenship, our School offers a set of enrichment and curricular complement activities that include various initiatives, projects and clubs. "

In recent years, the School has focused on activities that aim to promote respect for the environment among students, through concrete actions of selective collection of waste, recovery / rehabilitation of school green spaces and gardens. These activities have been promoted within the framework of some professional courses and the Eco-Schools program (International Program that aims to encourage actions and recognize the quality work developed by the school in the ambit of Environmental Education / Education for Sustainable Development.)

Close collaboration has been maintained between entities outside the school, such as Funchal City Hall, Regional Analysis Laboratories, Water Treatment and other Waste Stations, Health Center, etc.

The School also has projects approved by the Participative Budget of the Municipality of Funchal. In 2017, the "Lyceu" museum nucleus was inaugurated. Its renovation was supported by the City Council through this Participatory Budget.

In the scope of the new technologies and the Inquiry Methodology, some of the teachers of the school have already participated in the activities of the Go Lab (Global Online Science Labs for Inquiry Learning at School) project.

In 2014, the School organized the course Hands-On Astronomy, Discovering the Cosmos, organized by the NUCLIO - Interactive Astronomy Core. Several teachers from the Jaime Moniz School participated, but also from other schools in the region.

There are several teachers in the school who have master's degrees in the use of new technologies, in the scope of the history of Madeira, etc.
