2ο ΗΜΕΡΗΣΙΟ ΓΕΝΙΚΟ ΛΥΚΕΙΟ ΚΑΛΥΜΝΟΥ

2^nd GEL of Kalymnos is situated on the island of Kalymnos, in its capital Pothia.

It has approximately 130 students from 15-18 years old, and a small group of teachers that belong to permanent personnel of the school.

The building has its own personality, being a neo-classical style building. It has a rather small yard that hosts a volley-ball court or a basketball court, depending on the willing of our students.

Two years ago we hosted two children, immigrants from Afganistan, whose their parents and a sister were drowned near Kalymnos. The students of our school accepted easily these kids like their friends. For embracing  them UNHR offered us  interactive  boards, projectors  and five tablets in order to help Nahid and Mustafa have a better educational program.

It is tradition for our school to give a theatrical performance every year, usually commenting on the recent social and educational problems. All the students of the second class participate in the play , either as actors or as technicians.

We have a small garden with flowers and aromatic herbs like lavender. The students are responsible for its care. Sometimes of course, especially during summer, the teachers water the plants.

In our school we are interested in environmental subjects and local problems of our society. Thus the students participate in various environmental projects and there is also a STEM club that tries to find modern, technological solutions to local problems using arduino, automation and robotics.

The teachers, also, follow various seminars in order to improve thei digital and pedagogical skills.
