THEMATIC WEEK “HUMAN BODY AND PERSONAL IDENTITY”

"Thematic week was a national education initiative that firstly developed and implemented in lower secondary education
schools during the school year 2016‐17. The main objective of this initiative was to engage the school community (students,
teachers, parents) with educational activities and processes concerning specific fields (nutrition, prevention of addictions and
gender identities).
This Accelerator proposes an example of these activities, about “Human Body and Personal Identity” in high school students."


A template lesson plan offered  for schools to organize their weekly timetable according to their
resources and their students’ educational needs. That also gave them the opportunity to the teachers for peer collaboration in
organizing common workshops, projects and activities.
Each school teacher either alone or in collaboration with another teacher could organize his/her lesson plan in the basic fields of
thematic week. While school subjects like Biology or Civil Rights were more relevant all the school teachers organize their
hourly lesson plans trying to engage students with the thematology using different ways like teaching statistics using a chart
showing percentage of smokers vs age or English language using relevant texts.
Activities organized by school teachers relevant to their teaching subject
School teachers could use education proposals given by stakeholders to their students. They could implement several education
techniques such as role playing, debates and hands on activities to engage students in the education process.
Activities organized and implemented by stakeholders’ staff
During the implementation stakeholders’ staff could visit schools to give lectures or organize workshops about special topics.
The topics were addressed to students or adults (teachers/parents).
Activities for students took place during the school program in cooperation with the school teachers while activities for adults
were organized after the end of the school program.
