Pupils of 4th Junior High School of Petroupolis, in May 2019 (month of the European elections) had a guided tour to European Parliament in Strasbourg This was feasible via their video conference in Adobe Connect with their guide, Stafanos P., a Greek student in the European School of Strasbourg. During the tour our guide explains how the parliament works and answered to students' questions.
Aims
Students to:
- improve their knowledge of the European Institutions and promote a feeling of being a European Citizen
- have a look in the use of main democratic tools
-understand the importance of European elections, talk with their families about their experience during this visit and motivate them to vote
-feel the power of technology to eliminate the distances and get familiar with the video conference platform
Feel
We had discussions in class with our teacher of civil education about these:
- European elections are coming. What do we know about this?
- Have we noticed adds and banners in your city?
- What are our feelings about this?
- What are the democratic processes and what these have to do with education? Why should a student care about the European Parliament and European elections?
- What do you know about European Union?
In the ICT class we had a guided web search and we have used this link to check our knowledge

Imagine
Teacher's description of the activity:
Do you know which are the European Institutions that have to do with Governance?
Do you know where they are located?
Did you know that there is a Parliament in Strasbourg?
Imagine that you have the chance to meet a friend that is very familiar with the European Parliament in Strasbourg and you are the lucky ones to offer you a guided tour there. Would you be interested in?
Unfortunately, we are not in Strasbourg ....Do you think that a video conference would make a tour there feasible? What are your worries about that?
Our work in this phase:

We have read the announcement about the guided tour through a video conference and we are really excited as we have no experience of this kind of a meeting so far. And what a relief that our guide will be a Greek fellow! We will talk in Greek and that makes things easier as we are not very familiar with the proper vocabulary on this subject
Create
Teacher's description of the activity in this phase:
- "Democracy is..." Create word clouds in Word Art and slides collaboratively on the shared google drive about this subject
- "Democracy and education..." crate collaboratively a mind map in Coggle.it
- Visit this link and test through the games your knowledge about the European Union
- Find out which the main European Institutions are
- Prepare some questions for your guide, Stefanos to ask him during the video conference
We have worked in the meaning of Democracy, Democracy and Education (mindmaps and wordclouds brainstorming). And these are what we have managed:

Our questions during the meeting:
1. What kind of meetings are held in the European Parliament in Strasbourg?
2. How often is this used?
3. What other purposes/uses are hosted there?
4. What is like working as a translator in the European Parliament?
5. How is it possible to have "instant reactions" of what is said during the conferences after so many interactions from the traslations?
4. Personal for Stefanos:
a) Are you interested nin following studies in Political Science?
b) Do you think that your participation in this project will help you in your future studies?
c) Could you make a short comparison betweenyour life in Strasbourg and in Athens?
d) Do you have any thoughts of returning back to Greece in the future?
On 28 May we had the pleasure to meet our guide Stafanos Pappas and have a detailed tour to European Parliament. Our English teacher, Adamantia Liakourisiou, and student of C2a and B3a ICT classws were present. (Unfortunately at the same time there was another scheduled presentation at the Auditorium for the whole school and we could not have all our students with us).
We really enjoyed the tour, we were amazed of some interesting info we had and we were very proud of our conversation with Stefanos after the tour!
