Finding technological solutions inspired by nature for people with special needs
The students will meet people with special needs (disabilities) from their community, learn about their daily life and together they will find a problem they wish to solve. During the project the students will be exposed to the field of Biomimicry through a visit to the local petting zoo and through lectures and activities given by experts and teachers. The students will work in groups to plan and design a product according to the engineering design process. The product that will be developed will solve the special needs people's problem and will be inspired by nature. The final products will be presented to the community during a pick event with all the people that were involved in the project and other representatives from the municipality and from the Ministry of Education.

RESOURCES NEEDED:
The school will need help in finding academy experts in the Biomimicry and engineering fields. The school will also require money for students' travels. The school will also need some equipment for building the products, some of it will be provided by the local science center.

הבעיה שלנו היא בעיה שאנשים "רגילים" לא שמים לב אליה.
הבעיה שלנו הינה- אנשים חרשים שנפצעים, וגם נהרגים, משריפות.
בקהילה שלנו יש המון אנשים כבדי שמיעה, שחלק ניכר מהם הוא של חרשים לגמרי, לאחר הניסיון לחשוב על דבר שיוכל לעזור להם, נזכרנו בשריפה הגדולה שהיתה בהר הכרמל. שריפה זו גרמה לאלפי מתים, שחלק מהם הוא אנשים חרשים שלא שמעו את האזעקות ולכן מתו.
בעקבות כך המצאנו שמיכה רוטטת, התמקדנו בבעיה של שריפה בלילה מכיוון שישנם אמצעים להתרעה לחרשים במהלך היום.

שמיכה רוטטת. במקרה של שריפה, גלאי הקול יקלוט את הצפצוף מהמדבקה וישלח אות לשמיכה. בעקבות אות זה השמיכה תרטוט. כך החירש או כבד השמיעה יתעוררו ויצא מביתו לפני שיהיה מאוחר מידי.
פתרון זה יותר טוב מהפתרון "ביפר", משום שלא נוח לישון עם ביפר, אולם שמיכה מתאימה יותר לשינה. בנוסף לכך, שטח הפנים של שמיכה גדול יחסית, כך שגם אם היא תוסט במהלך השינה, עצם המצאותה בצמוד לאדם הישן, יגרום לכך שהוא ירגיש את הרטט.
המוצר יצטרך להיות נוח, ולכן בחרנו שמיכה שמשתמשים בה ביום-יום. המוצר חייב להיות חלק לא מורגש, אבל לעבוד ברגע האמת.
החיישנים במוצר יקבלו שדר ש"יפעיל" אותם ויגרום להם לרטוט, הרטט יעיר את החירש ויאפשר לו לברוח מביתו ולהזעיק מכבי אש לפני שהאש תהווה איום לחיי אדם המתגוררים בסביבה הקרובה.
השדר ישלח ממכשיר שיהיה צמוד לתקרת החדר בו האדם ישן. המכשיר יהיה בנוי משלושה חלקים,שדר בלו-טות', גלאי קול, וקשר, שיוכל לקשר ביניהם (יצא שדר אל השמיכה כשישמע קול הגלאי).

בשביל להדגים את המוצר לקחנו אל-בד (בד מאוד דק שרפשר למצוא כמעט בכל חנות יצירה בישראל) שמדמה את השמיכה עליו מדביקים מעטפות שבתוכן טלפונים. הם מדמים את הרטט. לאחר מכן מתקשרים אל הטלפונים. הטלפונים רוטטים ומעירים את האדם הישן.
בשביל האבטיפוס לקחנו משדר בלוטות', גלאי קול (מתאים לתדר של גלאי העשן בבית) וקשר, שיגרם לכך שישלח שדר שיפעיל את החיישנים שירטטו ויעירו את החירש.
