The lesson is designed for students who are studying chemistry and biology, class 9 -11. Students with provocative thinking and priority to natural sciences who wants to understand and explore the deepest mysteries of diets and healthy eating.

The activity is part of the curriculum.

Group size: Each student of the class receives an individual task related to healthy eating and human nutrition. The lesson is intended for self-extracurricular work..

1. Each student receives their own task. The teacher is the one who determine which student will work on a multimedia presentation, an experiment and who will be the host.

2. Invitations are prepared for special guests of the open lesson. The invitations are design by the students. They are with special copyright logo.

3. The students are given 20 days to collect the necessary information to make their presentations, their experiments and the scenario - everything needed for the lesson. It is explained that they have to work mostly by themselves, independently, and to focus on primarily information and facts from reliable sources. Also it is explained that a myriad of information does not always lead to a success. The prepared materials are presented to the teacher one week before the lesson. The pupils have the freedom to choose the information they need to perform the assigned task.

4. One week before the lesson two of the students are shooting a survey in the school. The questions of the survey are recorded using a video camera and microphone. The questions are simple and set in order to understand what the students’ knowledge about eating habits, nutrition, and health diets.  The record of the survey is handled by students with the help of a computer program and is presented at the beginning of the lesson.

5. After the broadcasting of survey the lesson continues with a presentation about “Carbohydrates” and immediately thereafter there are chemicals experiments such as silver mirror, solution Cu(OH)2 , reaction with Iodine all of them connected to the topic “Carbohydrates. In this case scenario made by the students includes the alternation of theoretical presentation with experience.

6. The host is the one that announces each additional participant. He/she strictly monitors the compliance with the time set up on the script.

7. The following presentations are created on topics "Fats"; "Proteins"; "Inorganic sells".

8. The experiments are easily executed, demonstrating the chemical phenomena and how to recognize the real chemical elements in the different food. The needed materials used in the experiments can be found in every high school lab.

9. The next step in the activity is presentations for physical activities with how many calories we can burn in the gym classes. The last presentation is on the topic-“Healthy diet”

9. The lesson ends with offering the audience health smoothie prepared by the students.

10. At the end of the lesson, the teacher who so far has been in the role of observer, make a brief summary of the presented tasks.

The lesson is widely used to encourage students to rely primarily on their own abilities and skills, their courage, that they are adequately prepared and able to manage with different types of tasks by themselves. The lesson develops their ability to think logically, as establishes a strong connection between theory and experiment.

Learning Objectives
