Digital Literacy GROWTH is a comprehensive primary school initiative that combines digital literacy, environmental exploration, and community involvement with an overarching focus on sustainability. This project aims to foster well-rounded, digitally savvy students, who are equipped to navigate and shape the evolving world from an economic, sustainable, and ecological perspective.
At the core of our program is the development of digital literacy skills. We utilise a wide range of digital tools and platforms to enhance students' competencies. From video production and stop motion animation to Lego engineering and coding, we provide a robust foundation that enables students to become active, responsible digital citizens. We strongly believe that forging strong digital skills is essential to a sustainable future.
The project places great emphasis on environmental exploration and sustainability. Students will actively learn about local flora and fauna using our 'secret garden', polytunnel, and other natural resources. They will engage in projects such as studying caterpillars' metamorphosis into moths, examining the roles of worms in our wormery, and observing the growth and development of various plants. Importantly, they will also learn how to grow their own food, making efficient and responsible use of their local environment.
The Digital Literacy GROWTH project is enriched by our community links. We will invite local experts in gardening, planting, and wildlife to share their knowledge, providing real-world context to classroom learning. These interactions, combined with the creation of digital content such as podcasts and videos, deepen students' understanding of their local environment and the importance of sustainability.
In essence, the Digital Literacy GROWTH project is about preparing our students for a digital, sustainable future. It fosters not only digital skills but also a culture of environmental responsibility, sustainable living, and active community involvement. Our aim is to nurture the growth of not just digitally literate individuals, but informed, responsible citizens of the world.

Guidelines
The Digital Literacy GROWTH project is designed to address several key issues:
-
Digital Literacy Deficit: In an increasingly digital world, a lack of digital skills can limit students' academic and career prospects. This project aims to close that gap, providing students with essential digital competencies.
-
Disconnection from Nature: Many students have limited understanding or appreciation of their local environment and ecosystems. This project encourages a deeper connection with nature, helping students to understand and value their local flora and fauna.
-
Lack of Sustainability Awareness: The importance of sustainable living is a pressing global issue. By teaching students how to grow their own food and make responsible use of their environment, we're fostering a greater understanding of sustainability.
-
Limited Community Engagement: There's often a disconnect between schools and their wider community. By involving local experts and showcasing students' work to the community, we aim to strengthen these ties.
-
Insufficient Problem-Solving Skills: Many students lack the skills or confidence to tackle real-world problems. The "Feel" stage of our project addresses this, guiding students to identify, understand and devise action plans for local issues.
Through addressing these issues, the Digital Literacy GROWTH project aims to foster digitally savvy, environmentally conscious, community-engaged students who are equipped to navigate and shape the future.
