The project focuses on the acquaintance, awareness, sharing, and dissemination of the natural and cultural heritage of the remote area of Kampos Tsakistras, which located in the mountainous region of Troodos. It is an interdisciplinary project that supports the achievement of objectives related to several subjects of the Curriculum: Science, Design and Technology, Environmental Education, Sustainable Development, and the Greek Language. The children worked utilizing new upgraded digital infrastructures acquired through their school's participation in the pilot phase of the European program Learning from the Extremes and employing the method of Project-Based Learning, to develop digital content and share it with their school's broader rural community.
Students created a digital guide for the village using the Book Creator application. QR codes were generated and placed at points of interest in the village, linking to relevant pages of the digital guidebook, in order to share, and disseminate the digital content produced within the local community, as well as to the broader rural and urban community of Cyprus. To create the digital material, the children studied various sources, including books, old photographs, and conducted on-site research. The local community played an active role in the learning process, as students interviewed community members about the history and traditions connected to various points of interest in the village. Furthermore, one member of the local community will translate the guidebook in english.
Thus, the project fully aligns with the innovative strategies of rural schools that support the organization and functioning of the school as a community learning space.

Within the framework of the Sustainable Development school subject students had various discussions related their local community and they identified the issue that there isn't any digital or printed media gathering information about the history, architecture, customs, traditions, and the rich natural environment of their region. They decided to tackle this challenge with the help of their teacher by creating digital content that allows every visitor or resident to explore the most significant cultural, historical, and natural points of interest in the village of Kampos by scanning a Quick Response (QR) code.

Guidelines
Students gather information about the history of their village, its customs, traditions, and its most significant landmarks from various sources: (a) by studying the book "O Kambos" by Kyprianos Savvas, (b) conducting interviews with their grandparents, parents, or other community members who can enrich their material, (c) collecting old photos of the village and taking a walk to photograph the points of interest they will write about, (d) studying written texts or digital material found through research on websites, encyclopedias, electronic newspapers. After collecting the material, they work collaboratively, with the help of their teacher, to decide what to include in their digital book. Then, they work on the Book Creator application, and each student writes about a point of interest in the village on a separate page (it is a shared file that allows users to work on individual pages). They incorporate photos or videos they have collected, and after collectively making necessary corrections, they publish their digital book. Then, they create a QR code to share their digital guide for the village. Additionally, they create a QR code for each page of the digital book separately, which they place at the respective point of interest in the village.
Several devices purchased with LfE funds were used, such as laptops for storing and processing content as well as creating the digital book, mobile phones for taking photos, interviews, and videos, the interactive touch screen for studying materials and presenting individual work, and the school subscription to the Book Creator application.
Instructions given to students:
• Collect information about the village using as many sources as possible:
o Study the book "O Kambos" by Kyprianos Savvas.
o Conduct interviews with your parents, grandparents, and other people who know something that could help enrich your content (e.g., the village priest, a forestry officer, the village mayor).
o Collect old photos of the village.
o Conduct an on-site study of the points of interest you will include in your digital book and gather information and photos.
• Save the digital material you find in the relevant folder created in Teams.
• Write down important information found in print materials (such as books, encyclopedias, studies, etc.) in a Word file and save it in the corresponding folder in Teams.
• Record the interviews in a Word file.
• Study the material you have collected for each point of interest separately. Decide collaboratively what you would like to include in the digital guide you will create.
• Work on the Book Creator application individually on a separate page of the book created by your teacher (using the code number sent to you on Teams) and write about the point of interest you have chosen. Include videos or photos.
• After completing your page, read your classmates' pages and suggest changes or corrections (as they will do for your page).
• After completing your book, publish it and create a QR code to share it with others.
• Create a QR code for each page of the book separately, print it, and place it at the respective point of interest in the village.

After becoming familiar with the basic tools of the BookCreator application with the help of their teacher, the students created a digital guidebook for their village. Subsequently, they generated Quick Response (QR) codes for their overall digital book as well as for each individual page representing points of interest. These codes were printed and placed on-site at these locations within the village.
