Following last March’s great success with more than 780 schools from 50 countries around the world involved in the activity, we are happy to announce the Eratosthenes Experiment March 2019, which will take place on Thursday, the 21st of March! Do not miss the opportunity to participate in this fascinating international event! Take part through your school by registering at the Eratosthenes Experiment website with your school’s longitude and latitude. After you are registered, you will be put in touch with a school from the same longitude with you by the organizing team. Together with your partner school, you will record data, collaborat! e, calculate the circumference of the Earth and submit your data.
In order to stand a chance to win a scholarship to attend the 2019 European Science Education Academy (ESEA) Summer School in Greece, take a photo of your experiment and submit it until the 12th of April along with your data. Visit the Eratosthenes Experiment official website, to create your account register your school, submit & store your experiment data to compare them with future data. If you already have an account, all you have to do is enter and update your profile, if needed (e.g. School name and coordinates if you are working in a new school this year, etc) and please don’t forget to check the Eratosthenes March 2019 participation box. If you like your photos from the experiment to be included in our gallery (under your school’s name ). Please email us, up to maximum 3 photos to eratosthenes@ea.gr
The Eratosthenes Experiment is organized under the support of the International Astronomical Union (IAU) in the framework of the celebrations for the IAU 100th anniversary and the astronomical breakthroughs that have shaped science, technology and culture throughout the last century.
