Main challenge:

The main challenge addressed on a Greek island was the lack of technological equipment that could provide solutions not only for the school but also for the local community's needs. The island's small size and limited resources made it difficult to access modern technologies, hindering educational innovation and development in the area.

Action and initiatives:

With the equipment bought from the funding of LFE project, the school adopted modern methods in teaching, by turning from the teacher-centered to student-centered methods with the use of modern technologies (e.g., 3D-printing) and thus, entered the field of educational innovation. Also, with the use of equipment that allowed videoconferencing, they managed to communicate with others through special applications by bridging distances, developing collaborations and implementing problem-solving skills. Finally, the students got actively involved in interdisciplinary work activities. With the diffusion of the educational work to the local community, students got interconnected with society and the labour market and managed to communicate their collective actions to others. Also, the local community got access to the school facilities and covered its needs for the organisation of cultural, educational and social events and the school library opened to local residents as well. The school is operating in the afternoons, during weekends and holidays and it is open and free for the education and training of adults of the wider local community, by organising training programs and informative lectures.

Main change/improvement/impact:

The equipment and services bought by the school promoted it in being a magnet of learning accessible to local communities. What is the most important of all is that the school was transformed into a local multipurpose center, a hotbed of knowledge and culture, utilising its infrastructure not only for educational purposes within the school hours, but also by extending its opening hours for the dissemination of its work and the need of the local community. In order to achieve the goal of the Open School. Parents, local community, students and teachers can now co-operate and school spaces (country yard, event hall, labs, library, sports center) are available to carry out educational, cultural, social, sports, recreation activities, etc.
