OSOS Summer School 2018
Community 31 membersDuring the OSOS Summer School, personal and individualized support, in addition to the provision to the suite of supporting tools, will empower the participants to engage in innovative practices. Instead of suggesting a one‐fits‐all approach to the forms and types of pilot activities, the participants will learn how to choose existing or design new types of school based activities and accelerators addressing the curriculum areas where you believe that innovation is demanded.
The OSOS Summer School will provide the participants with a powerful framework to engage, discuss and explore:
- how their school needs to evolve, transform or reinvent itself, according to the innovation level it is already reached:
- Innovation & openness for beginners: from individual efforts to holistic action plans
- Introducing innovation to competent schools: from essential change to acceleration
- From innovative schools to RRI‐enriched learning commons
- how their school will facilitate open, more effective and efficient co‐design, co‐creation, and use of educational content (both from formal and informal providers), tools and services for personalized learning and teaching
- how their school can become an innovation incubator and accelerator
The OSOS Open Schooling approach is not about the proliferation and the development of single schools; it is about creating new environments across the system through tri‐level development, at school level, at the community level and at national level.
Through the OSOS Summer School, the participants will be given the knowledge and skills to assess existing learning methods and material in their school, abandon those which fail or are too costly, learn lessons, and disseminate and reproduce the successful ones on a larger scale.
The provided lectures and material of the Summer School will offer to the participants effective and systematic guidance and support at the school leadership level in order to facilitate the introduction of the OSOS innovation process in their school and transform it into an open schooling environment.
Through this course the participants will gain valuable insights on how to:
- Analyse the needs of their school
- Create lasting supporting structures for their school
- Develop the culture, structures and conditions to facilitate dialogue, collaboration and knowledge exchange among your school’s community and internal stakeholders
- Promote & Collaborate with other schools, parents, higher education institutions and research centres and other external stakeholders
- Develop a strategy for dealing with resistance to change
- Reflect on the progress of organizational changes
The OSOS summer school will equip the participants with the competences they need to act successfully as a change agent, developing a terminology necessary to describe the dynamics of innovative change processes, and making them able to recognize different forms of resistance and addressing it in their own context. Through the provided course the participants will learn how to:
- become a pioneering teacher who leads the team of the participating teachers in their school
- Take initiatives in order to implement innovative practices that aim to have long‐term effect on the development of their school as a whole
- Develop a strategy for involving and disseminating the results of innovative practices to the whole school community
- Explain why innovation is important to ensure long‐term success
