Natural Disasters - community

This sub-community was created to host all the relevant documents related to the project - Natural Hazards - created in the framework of the Islands Diversity for Science Education projcetc (co-funded by the Erasmus + Programme of the European Union).

In this activity, students will discover that they live in a restless planet, where natural events can strongly affect the life of communities. They will  investigate the possible origins and intensity of different natural disasters, and how their communities and the communities that live in other islands have been affected and are prepared for future events. They will try to come up with ways to raise awareness to natural threats and help their communities to be prepared for the next event.

Learning objectives:

  • Discover what is a natural disaster and why it happens
  • Learn about the history of their island related to natural disasters
  • Discover the level of awareness of the community, related to natural hasards and the level of preparedness in case one happens
  • Learn about how to be prepared for a natural hasard
