ISE UK Community
Community 40 membersThis is a community for UK teachers within the Inspiring Science Education community. Here you can find ready-made lesson plans or share some of your own.
If you're not already registered, then please register here.
Lesson plans aim to effectively support all stages of the UK curricula. They provide an engaging and interactive atmosphere using interactive tools and web-based content. As a teacher you will be able to closely monitor the performance of your class as well as set homework or tasks as desired.
ISE UK wants to deliver the best practice science-based education tools directly to you.
To learn how to effectively use the ISE UK website, explore our User Guides for UK Teachers.

ISE 2016 Observing ChallengeTake part in the ISE 2016 Observing Challenge with your class to make your own observations with a professional telescope and receive a poster of your observation. |
To begin exploring our content, we recommend you take a look at some of our resources:
Secondary Schools
- Eratosthenes Experiment, allowing students to follow in the footsteps of Eratosthenes and measure the circumference of the Earth using simple measurements and trigonometry. More information on taking part in regular international collaborative activities and contests is on the Eratosthenes Experiment 2016 website.
- Gravitational Waves, allowing students to understand the detection of gravitational waves and even analyse real data from the LIGO detectors.
- Star in a Box, exploring the lifecycle of stars using an interactive web-app, showing animations of how stars change over the course of their lives. There is an A-level only equivalent which explores Stars as Black Bodies.
- Scales in the Universe studies the Universe, beginning at the Moon and working outwards in steps, from the Solar System to deep-sky objects. There is also a GCSE version of this looking at the units involved in measuring distances in the Universe.
- The Multiwavelength Universe, an introduction to the electromagnetic spectrum from the point of view of astronomy.
- Agent Exoplanet, using real telescope data to investigate extrasolar planets.
A number of resources are also available from other ISE partners across Europe. Highlights include:
- Following Curiosity on Mars, looking at the mission of the Curiosity rover on Mars assisted by the Worldwide Telescope
- Age of the Universe, which investigates cosmology and our expanding Universe.
Primary Schools
- Eratosthenes Experiment, allowing students to follow in the footsteps of Eratosthenes and measure the circumference of the Earth using simple measurements and trigonometry.
- Scales in the Universe, suitable for primary school children, studying the Universe, beginning at the Moon and working outwards in steps, from the Solar System to deep-sky objects.
A number of resources are also available from other ISE partners across Europe. Highlights include:
- What Causes the Seasons? an investigation into how the tilt of the globe influences warming from the sun and leads to the different seasons we experience.
- Babies and the Moon - investigating the phases of the Moon using Stellarium, using its claimed effect on birthrates as a hook.
Other resources
There are also many Demonstrators (ISE-approved lesson plans) available from the ISE Demonstrators page. Feel free to explore, there are thousands of resources available!
