Applying hydrologic modelling tools to delineate watersheds and extract a channel network of major rivers and streams for a selected area

Suggestions for 3 lessons, 45 minutes/each, suitable for students 15-18 years old. Designed for the use of a free and open-source GIS software (QGIS).

Students will gain:

• Knowledge on how to fill sinks and pits in a digital elevation model (DEM);
• Knowledge on how water is distributed and accumulated on a DEM;
• Knowledge on how to use raster calculator to extract a stream network.
