Earthquakes as natural phenomenon

Hosted by OSOS , contributed by Lidiya Kemanova on 11 July 2019

The only force, which we can’t predict is the power of nature. Silent disasters are those we can not control.

The Bulgarian lands have a favorable geographic location in terms of the threat of volcanic eruptions or tsunamis, earthquakes have repeatedly collapsed entire cities to the ground. On the territory of our country, seismic zones with the maximum magnet of 7.0 are the most elevated, with the Kresna, Plovdiv, Sofia, Gorna Oryahovitsa  and Shabla.

The correct action of each of us can be life-saving. With this project we wont student to be trained and know what they must to do if earthquakes happen.

Learning Objectives
Students to be informed and trained for real situation of earthquakes.

Student to know what they must to do in:

  • Actions in a seismic steady period;
  • Actions on the first shake;
  • Actions after end on the first shake;
  • Actions after end of earthquake;

Student get information about essence on phenomenon: focus, epicenter, seismic wave, Primary wave, Secondary wave, Surface wave, S-P time interval, inner core, outer core, mantle.

Performance on the project have two primaries parts:

At the beginning start with discussion with students  about their knowledge of earthquake. After that they get more information and create materials / like as presentation, brochure or flayers/.

Second part is resolve specific tasks: How locate the epicenter of an earthquake, Measuring earthquakes and other.

Create a brochure for activities in different period on earthquake.

Locate the epicenter of an earthquake.

Share brochure with student of your town.

Share information in school websyte.

Contact with local media.
